Musical auditions open to students Aug. 24-25

Auditions for the all-school musical, “Once Upon a Mattress,” are open to all students next Thursday, Aug. 24, and Friday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium. The musical is scheduled for performance Nov. 16-19 in the auditorium.

For auditions, students should have at least one music cut prepared, and students auditioning for a lead should prepare a second cut. The first day of auditions will focus on music, and the second on learning and performing a cut of a dance. Students must be present both days. Students who receive a callback will audition again the following Monday.

“We will need people that are actors, singer and dancers, but you don’t necessarily have to be competent in all three,” theater teacher Kylie Howell said. “I would encourage everybody to try out if they are interested. It’s such a great experience, and they will make great friends. I know it’s something a lot of people remember from high school as being really fun and important.”

It’s a comedy, but it’s not your traditional princess fairy tale story.

— Kylie Howell, theater director

Howell said the musical is a comedy modeled after “Princess and the Pea” and has a big cast with a place for everybody.

“It’s a comedy, but it’s not your traditional princess fairy tale story,” Howell said. “It’s a really funny story. There is some fun music and a lot of different memorable characters. It’s a story that people of all ages are going to appreciate.”
