Bowling team competes at state

After placing third at regionals, the bowling team finished its season by competing in the state tournament March 27 in Fort Worth.

Junior Cory Stewart and senior Laura Bracken competed on the bowling team and individually at the state level, after each placed fifth at regionals.

“I was really nervous because I knew there were going to be girls who have been bowling all their lives,” Bracken said. “We had to make the top 16, and I got fourth. Then we got seated for the bracket, and I lost my first round. When the bowling team competed to make the top 16, we didn’t make it.”

This year I wanted to try hard to make it to state in team and individual, and I did.

The bowling team has practiced since last November. Bracken said she started bowling last year when she found out about the team on Facebook.

“I just showed up to practice and did pretty well,” Bracken said. “I really wanted to make it to state last year, but I was a little too optimistic. This year I wanted to try hard to make it to state in team and individual, and I did.”

Bracken said being on the bowling team helped her make friends with others on her team as well as bowlers from Randall, Tascosa and Palo Duro. Bracken said next year she is going to be on the bowling team at West Texas A&M University, and in two weeks, she is going to bowl on the all-district team.

“The top five all year from all the schools in our district made it,” Bracken said. “It’s me, two girls from Randall and Tascosa, and a girl from Palo Duro. We are going to form a team, and go into a tournament.”
