What’s up? My name is Alyssa Seaton. I am a senior in my third year of journalism, and I am a co-editor-in-chief of the Soaring Wings Yearbook. In the little spare time I have, I write for The Eagle’s Tale. I enjoy taking pictures above all else because there are some things photographs say that words cannot. Other than journalism, I take dance classes as well as teach them, and I am also acting secretary of the American Sign Language Honor Society at Canyon High. I am involved in National Honor Society and the Quill and Scroll Honor Society. I spend way too much time browsing Spotify playlists and Pinterest, and I tend to find myself at a coffee shop multiple times a week. Overall, I live to try my hand in anything available to me and to find or tell everyone’s story.

Junior Abigail Bell conducts during the halftime show at the Borger vs. Canyon game. Bell became the class of 2022 valedictorian following her 8th grade year. School has always been an important aspect of my life, but its not the only part, Bell said. Taking care of yourself, having friends and being involved is just as important as having high grades. It can be difficult to balance all of this, but it is worth it.

Ending the game against Perryton on March 26, baseball players celebrate their 11-1 win. Throughout baseball games, songs each player picked will play over the speakers as they approach the plate to bat. I started trying to find a song back in March, a year ago, senior Trent Hefner said. Its one of those things that you feel, This is a cool song, it would be cool to walk up to.

Junior Ford Bobo launches himself into running the mile relay. “I love to be around all my friends at a track meet, Bobo said. Normally, the meets are around eight hours long, so we get a lot of time to go and be around friends. Other than friends the thing that motivates me the most is winning. I hate losing. Working hard and training will make me the best I can be.”

Junior Breanna Stuart runs the 3200 meter during a March track meet. “I have been running the one and two mile primarily throughout high school, and I want to push myself as much as possible,” Stewart said. “Our team this year has been pretty good. Everyone has been competitive and giving it their all in order to score points for the team.

Junior Breanna Stuart and freshman Hannah Stuart cheer for and time their brother, freshman Anthony, at a track meet. It was really exciting, Hannah said. I think that was the meet where Anthony was trying to break five minutes in the mile. So, we were very excited cheering for someone we care about.

Prom will be held on Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Happy State Bank banquet center. This years theme for prom will be Under the Lights, with the stadium lights visible from the banquet center. Pre-sales are cuurently open for CHS juniors and seniors only through tomorrow. Quest ticket sales will open March 22.

Seniors Brody Cook and Sadie Boyles were announced as Mr. and Miss CHS Friday, Feb. 5 during homeroom. As a Canyon High tradition, only seniors are considered for the title. The runner-up contenders for Mr. CHS were Rafe Butcher, Jay DeFoor and Jett Meek. The runner-ups for Miss CHS were Raylee Bain, Kyla Cobb and Kenadee Winfrey.

Senior Rafe Butcher and junior Braxton Butcher began their fitness brand, MadMan, in 2020 after the divorce of their parents. Under the instruction of their uncle, the pair trained to not only better their bodies, but also their minds. “It’s something that impacted me and my little brother so much that theres just so much you can take from it, Rafe said. A lot of this mentality that me and my little brother have, it’s really come out with this precision that everything is able to be done. There’s no task too hard, there’s no task too little. Everything from making your bed in the morning to brushing your teeth, to big-scale stuff like playing football.

Although the choir department could not host an indoor concert this year, members of the ovation choir, as well as students who auditioned, performed in Java and Jams Saturday, Jan. 31. The event was hosted in the breezeway. Several student musicians and bands performed, with a Palace Coffee drink cart available to attendees to complete the atmosphere. From the smooth vocals of senior Kat Clark and her band giving life to the show while she sings the lyrics of “Valerie” by Amy WInehouse, to assistant choir director Reece Kingcade jamming out in his own world while rocking to “Renegade” by Styx, read on to explore Java and Jams.
