The Canyon High tennis team defeated Midlothian Heritage 10-2 in the state semi-finals to advance to the finals against Fredericksburg at Texas A&M University.

The tennis team will play in the 4A UIL State Team Tennis finals against Fredericksburg Thursday, Nov. 1 at 11 a.m. in College Station at Mitchell Tennis Center at Texas A&M University.

The team defeated Midlothian Heritage High School 10-2 on Wednesday, Oct. 31 to advance to the championship match. Canyon High tennis won 3A state tennis team championships in 1991, 1992  and 2007.

“We all really want to win,” senior Taren Wells said. “We’ve worked really hard to be here, and we’ve practiced a tremendous amount of hours. Fredericksburg will be tough. We will just have to focus and remain calm.”

Sophomore Bryce Ware said they need to stay tough mentally for the last game.

“We all have just grown more together as a team,” Ware said. “All of our practices have made us improve so much over the season. We just need to stick to what we’ve been doing because it’s what has gotten us to this point.”
