The swim team will compete at the region meet Feb. 2-3.

The swim team will attend the region contest in Lubbock Feb. 2-3 after competing at the district competition Jan. 19-20.

The girls 200 yard medley relay and the girls 200 yard free relay placed 6th, qualifying both of the four-person teams for region. Sophomore Deanne Rice said the team has practiced every day in preparation of the meet.

“We did a lot of working out outside of swimming because we don’t have much time to practice,” Rice said. “I did it before and after swimming, working out and eating the right stuff.”

Rice said the team will continue to work every day for the region meet.

“My preparation won’t change,” Rice said. “I will just have to work a little bit harder. More schools will come. There were some surprises at this last meet. We moved up a spot, so it could go either way.”

Sophomore Joey Vanlandingham has competed in swimming competitions for 5 years.

We’re pretty close. Since we’re small, there’s not really a way you can’t be.

“District was a really good meet,” Vanlandingham said. “I compete in all of the relays, the 50 free and the 100 free. I got a new personal best in one of the relays, and we qualified in both of them to go for region.”

Vanlandingham said she is hopeful about the region meet going well.

We have a lot of people in relays going, and they’ve been trying really hard,” Vanlandingham said.

Vanlandingam said the team is always looking to recruit new members.

“Find anyone on the team and ask,” Vanlandingham said. “We can tell you about what you’re looking for if you’re wanting to join. We’re pretty close. Since we’re small, there’s not really a way you can’t be.”
