The volleyball team concluded their season on Monday, Nov. 6 with their advancement to the regional finals against defending state champion Amarillo High Sandies. The Eagles finished their season as both Bi-District and Area champions, with an overall record of 18-9 and 3-2 in district play.

Sophomore Emma Crenshaw said players prepared for games during the challenging season in a variety of ways.

“Before getting nervous, I try to tell myself I’m the best hitter here to get my self confidence during the game, even though I’m probably not, ” Crenshaw said.

Senior Makenzie Moore said she she uses scripture to get herself through a tough practice or game.

“Proverbs 12:24 says work hard and be a leader,” Moore said. “Be lazy and never succeed.”

Crenshaw said she has enjoyed being a part of the team with the older girls.

We grew really close this season, and that helped us in the long run.”

“I got really close to a lot of the older girls,” Crenshaw said. “They were really nice and took in all the sophomores.”

Moore said being a leader was enjoyable as well as watching the team and how they interacted with each other.

“We grew really close this season, and that helped us in the long run,” Moore said. “All the seniors felt like we had to bring in and show the younger ones how it’s done.”

Crenshaw said Head Coach Sara Morath told the girls many things, but one specifically stuck out.

“When we’re playing volleyball against a really tough team, Coach Morath always tells us ‘at the end of the day it’s all volleyball,’” Crenshaw said. “They’re just another team. It’s not like they’re Olympians. It’s just another game.”
