The crowd roars as the ball travels up and back down the field. Sweat drips down the players’ faces as the game goes into the second overtime. The buzzer sounds to signal the end of the game, the Eagles declared as the victors. This game will mark their first playoff win in four years.

Senior midfielder Miguel Reyes contributed to the team’s success by scoring the second goal in overtime. Reyes has been playing soccer since he was 4 years old. Reyes said his love for the game was started by and shared with his father.

“My dad was the reason I started to play soccer,” Reyes said. “He had a passion for it and wanted me to succeed in the sport.”

Reyes said the team had a good final run, not only in the final district games they played, but also into their playoffs.

“Our season has had its ups and downs,” Reyes said. “We finished district with a losing record, but I am proud of the way we still had made it into playoffs. We had an upset against Abilene Cooper in the first round of playoffs.”

Reyes has plans not only to continue his academic career at the next level, but also continue to play soccer.

“After high school, I plan on attending Paris Junior College for the next two years to begin my collegiate career,” Reyes said. “After those two years I plan on transferring to a university to finish off my eligibility of playing soccer. I actually plan on majoring in Kinesiology.”
