Boys cross country wins district, travels to Regionals

The boys cross country team won the district meet Friday for the eighth consecutive year.

“We held up our tradition, and did well as a team,” senior Mesa Allison said. “Some of the individuals didn’t do as well as we wanted to do, including me, but as a whole we worked well together staying in a pack.”

Allison was named district champion with a time of 16:34.

“Senior year wise, it felt good to be district champ,” Allison said. “It’s the kind of thing of no regrets. It was what I wanted to do. I didn’t want to get second senior year.”

Canyon will travel to Lubbock to compete in the Region 1-AAAA cross country meet at Mae Simmons Park this Saturday.

“We have a chance of going to state, but there are six other teams in region that are right with us,” Allison said. “They are pretty much copies of our team with a lead runner and strong pack.”
