“It’s really opened my eyes that there are so many different people in the world, and they are all living a different life that is completely different than yours,” junior and ASL (American Sign Language) vice president Emma Sheets said. “I make ideas, then ASL 3 expands on them and as a whole, we go and do it. Deaf contact time is where you go out. We get to socialize with some of the deaf people in Amarillo. They are pushed to the side, and communicating with them has made me more open and sociable. Any time you are communicating with the deaf, you can count it as deaf contact hour.  It’s really neat. You get to talk to people most people usually don’t get to. You get to build friendships and relate to them through ASL in a way others can’t.”
