Media’s tarnished integrity leaves Americans wanting truth

Medias tarnished integrity leaves Americans wanting truth

According to a recent poll, America’s faith in the reliability of the media is on the decline. Many believe that the media does not present information in an unbiased manner, instead favoring one side over the other or attempting to pass off inaccurate information as factual.

It’s about time people realized not everything on their news can be taken at face value.

Every news station has some sort of political slant. Viewers get either the conservative view of the news or the liberal view of the news, depending on the broadcasting station. Facts are intentionally omitted or ignored in an attempt to get the viewer to take their stance on a particular issue or vote for the candidate they’re endorsing.

The media isn’t immune from influence by people with power. Numerous presidential and congressional candidates won not because of their qualifications or abilities, but because of the media coverage of their campaigns.

Celebrities are only famous because of media coverage. Sometimes the latest celebrity gossip takes precedence over more important news simply because of the names involved. Just think about how much more people know about celebrities like Brad Pitt than they do important world events such as the war in Iraq.

The media holds more power over the population than any government organization ever could, and they don’t use their power wisely.

News should be simple information about events and people, not indoctrination for certain world views or reporters telling people what to think and who to believe.

Perhaps it is somewhat more complex than simply corrupted reporters and ethics issues. Yes that is there but could those things be symptoms of the state of how information has become available to the average joe and what organization is reporting it (and I use the word reporting loosely for the most part)? You do not make the distinction between “Media” and “Journalism”. These are apples and oranges and worthy of thought and distinction because my young friends if you can’t honestly understand the difference, then you can not begin to communicate news and events to those who really need to know balanced and accurate information, which is so vital in making thoughtful, informed decisions and taking the proper actions needed so desperately now. We are at an historic time of change in this country and globally as well. I for one need you to know of what you speak. There are are real issues and real changes are needed now. Its up to you to give us the info and tools to do what is best for all.

The media has become corrupted, though it has only taken the faulty or corrupted work of several reporters to stain our nation’s media. There are upright workers who do their job right, though it has been obscured by those who are unethical. The media has become sterotyped by people whose ethics take a backseat to fresh and exciting stories. I’m all for finding something good to report, but only if it’s true and unoffensive.
