CISD superintendent Mike Wartes congratulates Canyon High School English Teacher Jamie Crosswhite after she was named CISD Secondary Teacher of the Year.

Senior English teacher Jamie Crosswhite will represent CISD in the Region 16 Teacher of the Year competition after being named district Secondary Teacher of the Year.

CISD honored teachers of the year from each campus and named winners from among the finalists at the district teacher recognition breakfast May 14 on the campus of West Texas A&M University. The runner-up for secondary teacher of the year was Aaron Faver of Randall High School. The elementary finalists were Linda Brown of Lakeview Elementary and Jennifer Jolly of Canyon Intermediate School, with Brown winning the district honor.

In a video presentation, principal Tim Gilliland cited Crosswhite for her ability to inspire excellent work from her senior students while students in the video and program praised her for bringing her passion for both English and her students to class.

We wanted to impress her, and we wanted to work our hardest for her.

“Each class time I was captivated with how Mrs. Crosswhite could make some of the texts we read interesting, and how she would relate them back to our lives as high school students,” said graduate Payton Noel in the printed program.

Noel said she had never been so radically affected by the goodness of a teacher’s hard work, initiative and preparation.

“Mrs. Crosswhite is the teacher students worked for,” Noel said. “We wanted to impress her, and we wanted to work our hardest for her.”
