Senior and Anime Club president Tim Archambault plays a game of Vanguard during an Anime Club meeting.

Anime Club will host a video game tournament Thursday, May 28 in the art room.

The tournament consists of the games Super Smash Bros. 4, Mortal Kombat X, and Persona 4 Arena. The tournament will cost $5 for Super Smash Bros. 4, $3 for the Mortal Kombat X tournament, and free for Persona 4 Arena. Sign-ups begin at 3:40 after school, and the tournament will begin as soon as possible.

“The tournament is not just for Anime Club,” senior and Anime Club president Tim Archambault said. “It is open to anyone who wants to join.”

Smash Bros. 4 is the fourth game Nintendo has published in the popular series.

“Smash Bros. is generally conceived as a four-player party game,” Archambault said. “But we’re going to do it with a tournament rule set, where it’s one-on-one, no items, with a very specific stage set. It’s going to be best two out of three. The goal of the game is to knock players off of the stage. It’s basically advanced King of the Hill.”

It’s okay fun playing games, but super fun when you play video games with friends.

Archambault described Mortal Kombat X as an original tournament fighter, or one-on-one combat and a fight to the death.

“Persona is also an original tournament fighter, but it’s much more anime based,” Archambault said. “There are a lot of skill meters and bars that don’t make any sense whatsoever. The game is just very anime-esque and flashy.”

Co-vice president Luke Dyer said he is excited for the tournament.

“Personally, it’s okay fun playing games, but super fun when you play video games with friends,” Dyer said. “That’s why I would join. We also have casuals afterwards. Usually, it’s single elimination. We’re trying to get through it fast so that we can have a ton of casuals, and just have a lot of fun at the party.”

Anime Club asks that anyone who has adapters bring them, as they do not have enough to accommodate many people.

“We need GameCube adapters,”Archambault said. “The more set-ups we have, the faster the tournament will go. Right now, we only have two Wii U set-ups for what might be 40 people. It might be a little tricky. It might go past 7, which I really don’t want to happen. But, we’ll just go with the flow. Play to win.”
