Senior reflects on ‘Senioritis’ pandemic

Increasing difficulty to get out of bed, sluggish reactions around spring and the growing feeling of not caring anymore could be symptoms of senioritis. Some of those more unfortunate experience the disease quite early.

As a senior I can confirm that I display a number of these symptoms, further supporting the claim that seniors do have a tendency to slacken their academic progress as their graduation approaches. As the transition to college life grows ever nearer, so does the pressure on future graduates to maintain a high GPA, apply for scholarships while simultaneously meeting the criteria required for those scholarships, effectively manage a college schedule, acquire the funds necessary to enter one’s preferred college, preparing for graduation and a wide variety of other tasks that are crucial to the future of seniors.

As the inevitable transition to adult life that accompanies high school graduation approaches, I believe that staying motivated is imperative to one’s ideal future, however many graduates leave much to be desired in this regard. Ways to improve motivation include creating a mindset that will push through any obstacles in the way of set goals, surrounding oneself with the positive support of friends and family, constructing a list of objectives and numerous other techniques.

I recommend taking senior year a bit more seriously with getting time sensitive things out of the way as soon as possible; in other words, do not procrastinate. I was surprised by how fast my final year of high school went by and more surprised on how fast all of high school went by.

Having nearly completed my senior year and nearly finished my journey through high school education, the best piece of advice that I could bestow upon the seniors of tomorrow would be to complete time sensitive matters in an efficient and productive manner. Throughout the past several years I have found that both my senior year and my time in Canyon High have gone by far quicker than I anticipated. Good luck!
