Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” to play at Canyon High School.

The all-school musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” will open Thursday, Nov. 13 and will play the following Saturday and Sunday in the auditorium. The musical is an interpretation of Disney’s animated film.

The Thursday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday show at 2:30 p.m. Tickets cost $7 for students and $12 for adults. Tickets can be purchased at the door prior to the show.

“The audience will enjoy the story because it is very fun,” director Dave Yirak said. “There are going to be some great performances. The special effects will be exciting. We have really gone all out with the carriage and costumes.”

The cast and crew of 80 students has been preparing for the show since the beginning of the school year. Senior Trevor Glenn said the cast has worked hard.

“The dance numbers have been very rigorous and exhausting,” Glenn said. “I am very proud of the chorus and the dancers. The dancing is spot on. It will be entertaining and a good time for everyone who attends.”

The cast features seniors Bailey DeBerry as Cinderella, Aaron Hughes as Christopher the Prince, Madison Younger as Fairy Godmother, Trevor Glenn as Lionel, Makenzie Kuykendall as Stepmother, Hannah Dye as Queen Constantina and juniors Hannah Green as Grace, Blakelee Brownd as Joy and Justin Johnson as King Maximillian. A live orchestra, which includes both students and local musicians, will play during the show.

“I think the orchestra adds a lot to the show,” Yirak said. “It fulfills the experience and is a great plus. In some ways, it is easier with the recorded music, but you lose that sense of spontaneity.”

Younger said whoever comes to see the show will laugh throughout the play.

“The musical will be so fun,” Younger said. “We have some incredibly talented actors, singers and performers. I’m really honored to be a part of such a brilliant cast. When it all comes together, it’s going to be magical.”
