With Easter only days away, the Eagle’s Tale staff taste tested six different flavors of the popular marshmallow chicks, Peeps. Read our staff’s opinions and tell us about what kind of Peeps you love by commenting on the story below. Click here to see our “Peep” show.

Original

140 calories and 34 grams of sugar for five chicks.

Abby Caviness, staff reporter: There was no way that I was going to taste the original Peep after trying all the new flavors. I have never liked eating the original Peeps anyway.

Avery Cummings, staff reporter: With the addition of new flavors to the Peep world, the original was an old, forgotten tale. It wasn’t bad, but incomparable to its new friends.

Kori Adair, co-editor-in-chief: Not going to lie, the original Peep’s basic flavor was definitely not as strong as the flavored Peeps. However, I like the simple, sweet taste in comparison to the overbearing sugary taste of the flavored Peeps.

Sweet Lemonade: 10% of a purchase of Sweet Lemonade Peeps will help support Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for all kids with cancer.

140 calories and 33 grams of sugar for five chicks.

Tristen Hefner, staff reporter: The lemonade flavor was a bit to sour for me.  It tasted more like an actual fresh lemon than a drink.

Maisie Dyer, associate editor: My first bite of the Sweet Lemonade Peep brought a huge smile to my face from both the sweet and sourness of it. I am willing to try lemon flavored anything. Although I would not eat an entire sleeve of these Peeps in a short amount of time, I would enjoy having this sweet treat at least once a year.

Sour Watermelon

130 calories and 27 grams of sugar for five chicks.

Abby Caviness, staff reporter: The Sour Watermelon Peep, while it did not taste exactly like a watermelon, was a lot of sweet and not so much sour. If you’ve ever had a watermelon flavored Jolly Rancher, you can expect that when you taste this Peep.

Bailey Hufnagle, staff reporter: The Watermelon Peep was my favorite because it was like some sort of wonderful watermelon hard candy with a sugar coating. The pink inside with the green outside completed the watermelon packaging.

Blue Raspberry

130 calories and 27 grams of sugar for five chicks.

Caitlin Finley, staff reporter: The Blue Raspberry Peep is definitely one of my favorite candies now. There is a distinctly fruity taste paired with the sugary greatness that we know and love from Peeps. I will be buying these for myself very soon.

Allison Koontz, staff reporter: The Blue Raspberry Peep was definitely one of my favorite Peeps. The flavor was strong and was greatly converted into a Peep.

Party Cake

140 calories and 34 grams of sugar for five chicks.

Cortlyn Dees, co-editor-in-chief: The Party Cake was absolutely my favorite! The Peep really does look like a cake, with a blue coating with a confetti sprinkles, and a yellow-tinted inside. It was so incredibly tasty!

Josh Collins, associate editor: It tastes exactly like a cake, but it’s a Peep! This was definitely my favorite Peep and it even looked like a cake, with blue sugar on the outside and a creamy vanilla color inside.

Alejandro Rodrigues, staff reporter: Looks like a cake and smelled like one, too. I didn’t taste too much cake, but just a regular marshmallow. It just was the coolest looking, though, with its sprinkles and yellow cake-like inside.

Bubblegum

140 calories and 34 grams of sugar for five chicks.

Josh Collins, associate editor: The Bubblegum Peep was the only Peep I did not enjoy. Its downfall was tasting too much like bubblegum. My mind told me the consistency was wrong, and I wanted to just keep chewing.

Tristen Hefner, staff reporter: The Bubblegum Peep wasn’t bad.  It tasted really good, but because of the taste, you didn’t want to swallow it.
